Updating your beneficiaries is vitally important but may be something you don’t think about very often. The good news is that naming a beneficiary or even several beneficiaries is easy. Keeping this information updated can be extremely helpful in the case of an emergency or unexpected loss. To do so, just follow these simple steps below:
To change your beneficiary:
Create a contact and designate them as your beneficiary
Log into UKG Pro >> Menu > Myself > Contacts > Add
Enter as much information about your beneficiary as you can provide. At a minimum, we recommend entering their name, address, telephone number, address, and email. You will also need to state your relationship to the beneficiary and designate them as such (they can also be designated as an emergency contact and/or dependent).

Add the beneficiary to your life insurance plans
UKG Pro Steps: Menu > Myself > Life Events > I need to update my beneficiary
Complete the workflow to change your beneficiary. This must be approved by the benefits department before it is reflected within the system. You can reach Joy Bland, Benefits Manager at joy.bland@whg.com.
CAUTION: This life event only updates the beneficiary on your company-paid life insurance and voluntary life insurance products. If you have a 401(k) with RRI West Management, you must log into Principal’s website to update your beneficiary.
Add the beneficiary to your 401k
UKG Pro Steps: None—You must login your 401k account at https://www.principal.com/
Login > Personal
If you do not have an account, you can create one via the link on the login page
If you have forgotten your login credentials, follow the links on the login page for assistance.
Beneficiaries can be updated by clicking on the overview drop-down, and clicking on beneficiaries
Keep in Mind:
Steps 1 and 2 must be completed to ensure that your beneficiaries are named and tied to your life insurance.
If you are married, your spouse is your beneficiary by default. If wish to name anyone other than your spouse as a beneficiary, you must follow the above process.
If you are not married and do not have a beneficiary listed, life insurance/401k will be released to your estate during probate.
