All new linens and terry must be laundered prior to use by selecting the NEW LINEN CYCLE on the washer. This is a standard recommendation across the industry. Our NEW LINEN CYCLE dispenses Tide and Downy only. (No bleach)
The weaving or knitting process at the mill requires several chemicals including sizing to be used to ensure strength in the yarns to facilitate efficient weaving or knitting. The first wash is to remove sizing, dyes or other chemical additives used during the fabric manufacturing and finishing process. Using any other wash cycle causes discoloration or yellowing because of the bleach programmed into the cycles.
Simply open the new package and shake each piece to unfold and place it in the washer. Then select the NEW LINEN CYCLE.
Issues that can occur if items are not put through an initial NEW LINEN CYCLE wash:
Yellowing or discoloration of the terry and linens.
Skin irritation due to potential skin sensitivity to fabric sizing and chemicals.
Contact dye transfer onto other materials called crocking.
Stiffness and a harsher feel on materials.
Odor from chemicals applied at mill.
For terry products, maximizing absorbency rates due to the removal of sizing which can inhibit this. Towels are shipped compressed, and this first washing will fluff them.
Correct sizing of sheets and pillowcases. Products are cut larger to compensate for expected shrinkage in the first wash or two. Without this shrinkage many products will not fit or perform as expected.
Please post this in your commercial laundry room and train laundry GSRs accordingly.

There will be a Town Hall meeting held each month beginning November 16, and continuing the 3rd Thursday of each month. During these calls we will provide updates in the procurement world and have an open forum for attendees to discuss challenges, solutions, ideas, and any constructive topics related to procurement.
These calls are optional; however, we believe you will see value in attending if you’re available.
Looking forward to seeing you on our first Town Hall November 16!
